Texas Longhorns Cornerback Jahdae Barron has been gaining a lot of attention on social media since winning the prestigious Jim Thorpe Trophy. Barron played arguably his best college year in 2024 with the Longhorns. Not only did he have 67 total tackles, which was his second-best just behind his 2022 season, but he also picked up five interceptions and 11 passes defended, which were personal bests.

Barron, who was born in Austin, became an All-American and now Jim Thorpe Trophy award winner in his five seasons at Texas. Fans and teammates alike took to his latest Instagram post with congratulations and well-wishes.
Some fans commented, “Worked for it. Manifested it. Go time !” and “Dreams to reality. You were made for this. Gods got you.”
Wide Receiver Matthew Golden commented on Barron’s Instagram post, commending his former teammate: “Legendary, we did it, Brudda. ” Other teammates, such as Barryn Sorrell, used the peace sign emoji to express congratulations.
Defensive Back Derek Williams Jr., another one of Barron’s teammates, took to his post and called him a “Striker.”
Barron wasn’t afraid to throw a little shade in his post as he took the trophy to the Oklahoma University football field and posed with it.
This drew some comments from fans who didn’t take it so lightly, “2-3 vs OU,” one fan said, while another said, “So you showed up to Norman in the dead of night w/ no shorthorn logos anywhere on your body to take a picture? I respect the effort, but that kinda defeats the purpose of the whole photo. That’s what we call SOFT.”
It even grabbed the attention of Oklahoma Sooners Defensive Back, Kendal Dolby, who commented “Why you didn’t bring the trophy inside n flick up w us? You would’ve gotten a warm welcome.”
Regardless of how people took it, the post got him noticed, and he is the Jim Thorpe Trophy award winner of 2024.
What’s Next for Barron?
Barron declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He has been gearing up to hopefully accomplish his dream of playing in the NFL. Throughout the 2024 College Football season, it’s safe to say no Longhorn raised his stock and put himself on the map as much as Barron did to get to that next level.
As of Friday, Feb. 28, Mel Kiper ranks Barron as the third-best cornerback in the entire 2025 NFL Draft. Kiper also ranks Barron as a first-round pick. Kiper is certainly not alone in this opinion, as most other NFL analysts feel the exact same way.

With Barron’s physicality and versatility working greatly in his favor, he will be a valued player for whichever NFL team chooses him. While it remains to be seen exactly where he winds up, one thing we know for sure is we will see him on an NFL field sooner rather than later.
