A future Oklahoma Sooner is preparing for the move to Norman a little earlier than expected. Jaden O’Neal is set to play his senior year of high school football in the state of Oklahoma this year.

To Sooner Country Jaden O’Neal Goes
According to On3 High School, the four-star quarterback is transferring from Narbonne High School in Los Angeles, California, to Mustang High School in Mustang, Oklahoma.
The big connection here is that O’Neal is already committed to playing for the Sooners once his college career kicks off.

A top-15 quarterback prospect in the country (via 247 Sports), the Sooners could end up having their best quarterback since Jalen Hurts once O’Neal takes over eventually down the line.
Last season at Narbonne, he threw for close to 2,500 yards and 27 touchdowns while completing 61% of his passes in just 11 games.
He is one of high school football’s great stars and, once he enrolls, could bring the Sooners back.
For the second time in three years, the Sooners finished the season with a losing record. What is worse is that they finished the 2024 season with a conference record of just 2-6, which was good for 13th best in the conference.
Venables did lead the team to a 10-win season in 2023, but again, that was sandwiched between two 6-7 seasons.
Last season, Washington State transfer quarterback John Mateer played well. He threw for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. If Mateer can step up and perform at the same or even better level, it will be up to Venables to keep his defense in good shape.

Last season, the Sooner defense performed admirably, finishing 19th in total defense in the FBS (318.2). To win a championship in college football, you have to have a complete team on both sides of the ball.
Oklahoma is still trying to build its program back to that level.
It will be interesting to see if the program is exactly that by the time O’Neal enrolls at the university down the road.
