College Football Alerts showcased the Buckeyes’ quarterback pipeline in an Instagram post on Thursday (May 29) titled “Man, there have been some ELITE QBs at Ohio State.” The first slide showed Will Howard, fresh off winning the College Football National Championship last year.

The next slides showed his predecessor, Kyle McCord, then Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud. Now playing for the New York Jets, Justin Fields was next on the slideshow, followed by the late Dwayne Haskins.

Next on the list were J.T. Barrett, Braxton Miller, and Terrelle Pryor, followed by Todd Boeckman and Troy Smith. The slideshow concluded with Craig Krenzel, who led the team to a national championship in 2002. A few commenters noted that Cardale Jones, who led the Buckeyes to a national championship after taking over the team from Barrett in 2014, wasn’t mentioned in the post.

Sayin, who transferred to Ohio State from Alabama, is competing with sophomore QB Lincoln Kieholz for the starting position. The 6’1 redshirt freshman has been given keen praise by former legendary coach Nick Saban, who had recruited him to Alabama before he retired.

That contrasts with recent polling by Brad Crawford of 247 Sports, who has Sayin ranked as the 16th best quarterback in the nation but did cite Saban’s approval as a positive. “There’s not a quarterback in the country with a more talented wideout group, and from all accounts inside the program, the former five-star recruit and Alabama signee under Nick Saban is ready for a breakout campaign as a redshirt freshman,” he wrote.
