Former Louisiana Tech QB Hank Bachmeier has a new home after entering the transfer portal and will be playing Winston-Salem in 2024.
Backmeier is heading to the ACC, joining Wake Forest, and is their presumptive starter in 2024.
Hank Bachmeier Transfers to Wake Forest
Wake Forest was in a hole at the quarterback position heading into 2024 and had no choice but to enter the portal. They finished the 2023 season with a 4-8 record, and starting QB Mitch Griffis and his backup Santino Marucci opted to enter the transfer portal.
Griffis became the starter in 2023 after Sam Hartman transferred to Notre Dame but had an unspectacular season. He finished with 1,553 yards, nine touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

After losing two quarterbacks to the portal, the Demon Deacons were left with no alternative but to enter it themselves. They have landed their presumptive new starter in Bachmeier.
Breaking the news, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Sunday, December 12, that Bachmeier is transferring to Wake Forest ahead of the 2024 season.
Bachmeier, who is transferring schools for a second time, played at Louisiana Tech in 2023 after playing four seasons at Boise State. The quarterback was one of the most experienced on the market.
Bachmeier now enters his sixth year of eligibility at Wake Forest after throwing for 2,058 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions in nine games in 2023.
The quarterback was a big recruit and was ranked the No. 7 pro-style quarterback in the 2019 class by 247Sports out of Murrieta Valley, California. He committed to Boise State as their biggest-ever recruit, even though he was actively recruited by several Power Five schools.
After a promising start to his career, Bachmeier chose to enter the transfer portal in 2022 after losing his starting job with the Broncos. With the Bulldogs, Bachmeier was expected to take a jump, however, after a shoulder injury kept him of three games, he decided to reenter the portal for the second time in as many seasons.
In his career, Bachmeier has completed 718 of his 1,139 attempts, throwing for 8,663 yards, 51 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions.
Bachmeier now moves to his third team of his college career for his last year of eligibility looking to rekindle some of his early career form.
