Grayson McCall Injury Update: Will the NC State QB Miss the Week 4 Clash With Clemson?

Grayson McCall left NC State's game against Louisiana Tech. What do we know about his injury, and what's next for NC State?

The NC State Wolfpack landed one of the top passers out of the transfer portal to lead their offense in the 2024 college football season. However, during the Week 3 win over Louisiana Tech, Grayson McCall suffered an injury that saw him miss the rest of a game where Dave Doeren’s team trailed early.

What is the latest on the star NC State quarterback ahead of their Week 4 clash with the Clemson Tigers?

    What Happened to Grayson McCall?

While the nature of McCall’s injury is unknown, the extent became clear on Monday when the NC State quarterback was ruled out for Saturday’s clash with Clemson. Head coach Doeren named CJ Bailey is the starter, ending any speculation as to whether McCall could take to the field in the all-ACC clash.

“CJ is going to run the show until Grayson is healthy,” Doeren told the media on Monday. “I’m excited to see what CJ can do. And whoever is wearing the red and white, the fans need to have his back. They need to be supportive. They need to pray for those kind of things when they happen, and that’s what family does.”

Doeren also stated that McCall is “day-to-day” while giving Wolfpack fans hope that they’ll see the former Coastal Carolina Chanticleers quarterback in action again in the not-too-distant future.

“We’re going to take our time…It’s not a season-ending thing.”

McCall has a brief injury history, most significantly a concussion sustained last year that ended his season and his Coastal Carolina career. In the Arkansas State game last October, McCall was hit late while sliding and was knocked out briefly after hitting his head on the turf.

He missed the rest of the season before transferring to NC State this offseason. McCall is a sixth-year senior who was expected to be one of the top quarterbacks in the ACC this season.
