Georgia DB Tykee Smith Believes Bulldogs Aren’t Done – “The Dynasty Isn’t Going Anywhere”

Georgia won back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022, and despite missing the dance in 2023, DB Tykee Smith says the dynasty isn't over yet.

After starring in West Virginia’s defensive backfield for two years, Tykee Smith transferred to Georgia with championship ambitions. Three years and two national titles later, it’s safe to say those ambitions have been sated. But Smith says the Bulldogs’ reign over the college football landscape isn’t over yet.

Tykee Smith Says Georgia’s Dynasty Isn’t Over

Speaking at the 2024 NFL Combine, Smith explained, “Everbody bought into the program, so no matter who gone or who leaving or who declaring for the draft, they still going to do what they do. Coach [Kirby] Smart is still going to put them in the best position for everybody to be successful. So, the dynasty isn’t going nowhere.”

In 2021, Georgia embarrassed Michigan in the opening round of the playoffs before knocking off a Bryce Young-led Alabama squad 33-18 in the title bout. Then, in 2022, they narrowly bested Ohio State 42-41 in an instant classic prior to thrashing TCU 65-7.

Georgia went 13-1 in 2023, with their only loss coming against Alabama in the SEC Championship, 27-24. That defeat controversially cost them a College Football Playoff bid, with the Crimson Tide sneaking past the Bulldogs for the No. 4 despite having a worse overall record (12-2).

Smith is just one of a slew of Georgia players heading for the 2024 NFL Draft. Chief among them are TE Brock Bowers, OT Amarius Mims, CB Kamari Lassiter, WR Ladd McConkey, DB Javon Bullard, and C Sedrick Van Pran.

Still, the Dawgs return QB Carson Beck, attacked the transfer portal for starters and depth, and, being one of the preeminent programs in the nation, already had a roster full of former five- and four-star players ready to see the field, so it’s unlikely they’ll see a dramatic drop-off next season.

Will they win another national championship in 2024? Georgia has the highest odds in the country at +350 on BetMGM, and with Nick Saban calling it a career, it will be a lot easier for Smart and Co. to keep the dynasty rolling in the SEC.
