Former USC WR Gary Bryant Jr. Transfers To Oregon

Oregon upgrades their WR room by adding former USC pass catcher Gary Bryant Jr. from the transfer portal, a receiver with skills beyond his box score.

After entering the transfer portal earlier in the year, former USC wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. will transfer to Oregon ahead of the 2023 college football season.

Gary Bryant Jr. Transfers To Oregon

Oregon went fishing in the transfer portal once more this offseason, reeling in another wide receiver with the commitment of former USC pass catcher Bryant Jr. The Ducks already secured former Troy WR Tea Johnson and Alabama’s Traeshon Holden since the end of the 2022 season. Bo Nix will have no shortage of weapons to throw to in the upcoming campaign.

Bryant was the bright spot in an otherwise lackluster recruiting class for USC as he came out of Centennial High School in 2020. A four-star prospect, the California native was considered a top 50 overall player in the class and the seventh-ranked WR in the nation.

Despite an impressively productive high school career where he racked up 2,902 yards at a scintillating 19.87 yards per catch, a stacked USC receiver room meant that there were low expectations of an immediate impact as a freshman. Ultimately, that came to fruition, with Bryant tallying just seven catches for 51 yards and no touchdowns.

However, he produced something of a sophomore breakout in 2021 for the Trojans. The speedy wide receiver tied Drake London for the team lead in touchdowns, snagging seven scores, including one in a career day against UCLA. Bryant burned the Bruins to the tune of 161 yards at 17.9 yards per catch as he showed off a skill set beyond the devastating speed that had been the calling card of his high school recruiting report.

The young USC receiver was unable to replicate that form in his final season with the Trojans. He played in just three games last fall, hauling in two receptions for 15 yards while returning a combination of four kicks and punts for a total of 34 yards. Bryant redshirted, holding on to another year of eligibility before entering the transfer portal.

Bryant adds a speedy deep threat to the Oregon receiving room. While he can take the top off a defense with his breakneck speed, the former USC receiver has shown that he possesses excellent ball-tracking skills with the ability to adjust to an errant pass. He’s also capable of breaking tackles as an after-the-catch threat.
