Notre Dame’s absence from the College Football Playoff is probably the biggest controversy of the year. They were passed over in favor of the Miami Hurricanes, and according to the committee, the decision was down to the Canes’ victory over the Irish.
NEW: Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua says the Irish were “targeted” by ACC social media campaigns pushing Miami over Notre Dame in the CFP:
“We were definitely being targeted… . We bring tremendous football value to the ACC, and we didn’t understand why you’d go out of your way to… https://t.co/TTllirhlVd pic.twitter.com/yInig20prz

However, authorities in South Bend have a different take on the matter. For them, and in particular for athletic director Pete Bevacqua, the Fighting Irish were betrayed by the ACC, which pushed one of their own teams for the CFP.
Let’s just say, the fans weren’t having it.
“They honestly should’ve done more to sh*t on you babies😂,” joked one fan.
“Notre Dame put the Target on themselves. 😎,” said someone else, referencing the Irish’s decision to stay independent.
“Still crying is crazy,” complained another fan.
“omg dude give it up already,” said another fan who seemed annoyed.
“join a conference pu**y,” demanded another fan.
One fan couldn’t take it anymore and went on a rant.
“So you’re mad that the ACC pushed…. an ACC team for the final spot?? This delusion is becoming next level… I get you ‘work’ with the ACC on things but you have to understand that the team actually IN the conference is going to get first priority in this case… But yes, once again, say you will just go somewhere else then… Maybe just go ahead and buy your whole schedule of FCS and low FBS schools… They’ll take your money to play you,” wrote the seemingly fed-up fan.

What did Notre Dame’s AD Pete Bevacqua Say?
Pete Bevacqua’s complaints are mainly about the ACC pressing a marketing campaign to push the Miami Hurricanes for the CFP spot.
“We were definitely being targeted… . We bring tremendous football value to the ACC, and we didn’t understand why you’d go out of your way to try and damage us in the process,” he said.
It seems unrealistic that he would’ve believed that the ACC would’ve preferred Notre Dame over one of their own, regardless of their strong ties. It’s more confusing when one considers that Notre Dame had the opportunity to beat Alabama this season but failed to do so.
