Last week, three-star 2026 Waxahachie (TX) WR Kohen Brown announced an offer from Texas, adding another major Power 4 school to his growing list. This list already includes Notre Dame, the favorite to win the recruitment battle, and Colorado.
Brown, who recently decommitted from USC, has quickly become one of the hottest names in the state this offseason. Since reopening his recruitment, the wideout has picked up offers from Colorado, Notre Dame, and now Texas, which is looking to make a push to keep in-state talent in the “Lone Star State.”

Texas, Notre Dame Battling For Elite 2026 WR Kohen Brown
A top wide receiver target, Kohen Brown, is heating the rivalry between Texas and Notre Dame again as expert predictions point to a head-to-head recruiting war. It was discussed on the “On Texas Football” podcast with college football analysts Jeff Howe, Gerry Hamilton, and CJ Vogel.
“A one-time USC commit, kind of backed off from that commitment earlier in May,” Vogel says. “Things have opened up for him. Texas has stopped by Waxahachie twice.”
He continued, “Now, Kohen Brown, one of the big points of interest there for the Texas staff at Waxahachie. It sounds like there will be a Texas official visit from Brown, whether it be June 6 or June 20, we’ll have to wait and see.”
“Notre Dame is kind of the team leading the charge since he backed off of that commitment. So, Texas Coach Jackson stopping by twice… It sounds like the Longhorns are going to become more involved here. It sounds like it might end up being a Texas vs. Notre Dame battle, stop me if you heard that before,” Vogel says.
Listed at 6’0″, 190 pounds, Brown is currently ranked No. 243 in the Rivals250 and the No. 34 overall prospect in Texas for the 2026 recruiting cycle. He’s coming off a breakout junior year where he caught 54 passes for 1,084 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He routinely showcased his speed, ball-tracking ability, and knack for big plays. Brown has also seen some time at cornerback, showing off his versatility on both sides of the ball. We saw this with Travis Hunter for Colorado last year, which is why he was drafted so highly.

Texas has prioritized the wide receiver position in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Brown’s blend of explosiveness, polish, and two-way ability makes him a very interesting option for any team.
With the Longhorns now officially in the race, they need to get past Notre Dame to win the recruitment battle.
