Edmonton Elks Add 3000-Yard ACC Star Jalon Calhoun to Boost High-Powered Offense

The Edmonton Elks are making bold moves to improve after finishing the 2024 CFL season with a 7-11 record, placing fourth in the West Division. Their latest addition, former Duke wide receiver Jalon Calhoun, is expected to boost their offense as they aim to make a bigger impact in 2025.

By signing the 3,000-yard ACC star, the Elks are sending a strong message that they’re serious about winning this time. Besides Calhoun, they also signed eight more players to the roster before the new CFL season, which shows just how determined they are to move past last year’s struggles and set a new standard in the upcoming season.

The Edmonton Elks announced on Monday that they have signed nine players to contracts as part of a major roster overhaul for the 2025 CFL season. Among the additions are wide receivers, defensive backs, a defensive lineman, and a kicker.

The most notable signing is former Duke wide receiver Calhoun, a standout player who amassed over 3,000 receiving yards during his college career.

Calhoun played five seasons for the Duke Blue Devils from 2019 to 2023, where he became one of the ACC’s most reliable targets. He recorded 253 receptions for 3,026 yards and 17 touchdowns. His best season came in 2022, when he caught 62 passes for 873 yards and four touchdowns.

After going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, the former Duke star signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent (UDFA). Although he didn’t make the active roster and was released during training camp, his experience with the Lions provided valuable exposure to professional football.

Following his NFL stint, Jalon Calhoun joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats practice squad before signing with the Elks.

Now, the 24-year-old wide receiver from Greenville, South Carolina, has a chance to shine in Edmonton’s high-powered offense.
