Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway could be primed for a big season in the SEC.
However, a shoulder injury could slow his growth ahead of the 2025 season.

The Current State of DJ Lagway’s Shoulder
College football insider Mark Long recently joined 92.5 FM in Florida to give some insight into the Gators’ starting quarterback’s shoulder issue.

“There’s something going on over there,” Long said. “He never had a shoulder injury last year…Something is fishy…All of a sudden, March 6 he’s not throwing.”
Now, there has been recent footage of Lagway at Florida’s spring practice.
On Thursday, he was working on his footwork and going through drills but not throwing footballs.

As Long mentioned in his radio appearance, there is something odd going on down in Gainesville. While the Texas native didn’t play his best ball as a freshman for head coach Billy Napier and Co., he still gained plenty of experience that will help him down the road.
But if his shoulder injury continues, that may not bode well for the team.
Lagway as a Freshman
In his first season as the starting quarterback, Lagway completed nearly 60% of his passes and added 12 passing touchdowns.
It has to be noted that he split time with veteran quarterback Graham Mertz, who is now gone. This means that Lagway seems to now possess the starting job.
When healthy, he could have the potential to take the Gators to heights that they have not been since the days of Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow.
A lot of eyes will be on Lagway as he continues to try to get back to his healthy self. Still just 19 years of age, he has his entire college career ahead of him.
Another intriguing part of this is the position that Napier is in because he might be on the hot seat. While he was able to win eight games last season for the first time in his stint at Florida, the Gators were not in contention for anything.

Lagway’s health will be a huge factor in determining the course of the Gators’ season and Napier’s coaching future.
