Last season, DJ Lagway and LaNorris Sellers were both freshman quarterbacks in the toughest conference in college football, and both of them balled out.
Despite both these players’ on-field success in 2024, it would appear that Lagway is receiving most of the media attention and hype this offseason, which has many college football fans and analysts wondering why.
Why Has DJ Lagway Received More Hype Than LaNorris Sellers?
Lagway took over as the starter for the Florida Gators after they got off to an atrocious start and led them to a 7-1 record to end the season.
LaNorris Sellers took the helm at South Carolina in his redshirt freshman season and led the Gamecocks to 10 wins and nearly a college football playoff appearance. 247Sports analyst Brad Crawford went on a rant of sorts, listing reasoning behind why Sellers should be just as, if not more, hyped up than Lagway for the 2025 season.

In my humble opinion, Crawford is right. Sellers put up better numbers in 2024 than Lagway did, throwing for 2,534 yards, 18 TDs, and 7 INTs, as well as running for 674 yards and seven TDs, as opposed to Lagway’s 1,915 yards, 12 TDs, and 9 INTs with 100 more yards on the ground. Not only did Sellers put up better numbers, but in terms of the eye test, Sellers looked more comfortable, confident, and overall better than Lagway in 2024.
Now, don’t get me wrong. This is not a knock on Lagway, as I think he’s going to have a truly fantastic college football career. I’m just saying that Sellers should probably have a bigger spotlight on him going into 2025.
The reason Lagway is receiving more hype is that the Gators have a way bigger market than the Gamecocks. Florida gets more clicks, hits, and views than South Carolina does, which is why so much of the media is talking about Lagway and his future with the Gators.

Either way hype doesn’t really mean anything as both these young signal callers will have to earn that “hype” on the field in 2025, but it’s certainly a blessing that us fans get to watch both Lagway and Sellers play football next season.
