The Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off an incredible season that culminated in them winning the National Championship game. A lot of last season’s success can be attributed to quarterback Will Howard, who led the Buckeyes all season long, but now departed to the NFL.
With Howard gone, Ohio State is looking for its next quarterback, and the battle between Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz is still ongoing. Analysts have been giving their opinions on who should be the next QB for the Buckeyes, including former Ohio State wideout DeVier Posey.
DeVier Posey Picks Julian Sayin as the Ohio State Starting Quarterback
DeVier Posey knows a thing or two about elite quarterback play at Ohio State, as he had Terrelle Pryor as his signal-caller during his career with the Buckeyes.
When asked on WBNS CBS news who he thinks the starting quarterback should be for Ohio State in 2025, Posey said “I have a love and an affinity for Lincoln as a young player growing up in terms of being an athletic quarterback, but my money, I have to put that on Julian Sayin.”
Posey went on to explain his pick further, saying, “He’s becoming a leader, he had a great spring, and on top of that he has a rapport with Jeremiah Smith, Brandon Inniss, and Carnell Tate from their SFE back in seven on seven when those guys played in high school.”
I don’t disagree with Posey. Sayin was a consensus five-star in the 2024 recruiting class, and 247Sports had him as the 20th-best player in the entire country.
Between Sayin and Kienholz, Sayin has the upper hand in terms of being a pure thrower of the football. He’s more accurate, has a stronger arm, and has better overall footwork.
Kienholz, who is a great young quarterback in his own right, probably has more of an athletic upside, but when you’re trying to get the ball downfield to playmakers like Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, I think Sayin will fill that role the best.
At the start of the offseason, many analysts thought it was a foregone conclusion that Sayin would be the Buckeyes’ starter in 2025, but Kienholz had a very good spring and made the competition closer than expected.

Ryan Day has given no real answer on who has the upper hand, and it seems like the two quarterbacks will continue to battle for the starting job throughout the summer. It’s one of the most interesting storylines of the entire offseason, and time will tell if Posey’s pick ends up being right.
