College football is back and with its return are some of the most unique and bold jerseys in all of sports. College football uniforms date back 100s of years in some instances and others have taken the world by storm with new-age looks in recent memory.
In Week 1, our eyes are treated to a new look for the Houston Cougars, but with an old, traditional touch.
College Football Jerseys: Week 1’s Best Hail From Houston
1) Houston Cougars
The Houston Cougars land in our top spot for good reason. As a matter of fact, we’re not even going to rank the rest of the uniforms because A) football is back and we’re #blessed and B) they’re all awesome.
Houston’s Oilers-themed uniforms are just too good. Look at this helmet again. Look at the field paint. These are stunning.
Arkansas State Red Wolves
An icy white combination heads to Norman for the Arkansas State Red Wolves. The Red Wolves logo pops off the white helmet while the remaining white elements give an incredible look for the start of the season.
Ball State Cardinals
The Ball State Cardinals are in on the icy white combination to start the season, landing with white helmets, white uniforms, and white pants. They cap it with a classic look and numerals on their helmets for Week 1.
Charlotte 49ers
The 49ers start the Biff Poggi era with a classic combination, their white helmets, green jerseys, and gold pants. At just 10 years old, these uniforms have already become etched in our weekend viewing repertoire as a staple of Charlotte home games.
Cincinnati Bearcats
Welcome to the Big 12, Cincinnati Bearcats fans. And welcome back to one of the sport’s best helmets: the Cincinnati white. The Bearcats will go with white helmets, black uniforms, and white pants to open their inaugural Big 12 season.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
Clean in Cali was the uniform reveal theme for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Safe to say that this is just that: very clean (as Shrek would say).
Duke Blue Devils
One of the most classic uniforms in our sport, the Duke Blue Devils are going with their classic white, blue, white combination, but with a twist. The retro lettering on the helmets has us all kinds of jazzed for their season opener.
FAU Owls
The Florida Atlantic Owls are going with their classic red helmets in Week 1. But with a twist. A palm tree on the right side is adorned with their area codes as they ‘put on for their cities’ to start the season.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
After finally heating up on the field in the second half in Week 0, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are planning to ice out Dallas in Week 1. The Bulldogs are going white helmets, white uniforms, and white pants in their first road game of the season.
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders head to Alabama, rocking their white, white, blue combo. White helmets featuring the distinct MT logo look clean with their white uniforms featuring their specific and beautiful shade of blue on the bottom.
Ole Miss Rebels
White, red, white. The Ole Miss Rebels are set to wear new combinations every week. Expect to hear more and more about them in this series this season.
Oregon Ducks
No uniform discussion is going to be complete without talking about the Oregon Ducks. It’s black, yellow, yellow for the web-footed masterpieces in the Pacific Northwest, Carbon to be exact for the helmet. Yeah, college football is back.
New Mexico Lobos
Not to be outdone by their in-state rival’s Week 0 (and Week 1) look, the New Mexico Lobos iced out their Week 1 uniforms. Red helmets and all-white everything else, the Lobos placed some turquoise lettering on their helmet bumpers, an ode to the fact that they’re one of just four states with a shade of blue in their state flag.
New Mexico State Aggies
After treating us in Week 0, the New Mexico State Aggies are back to their classic ways, with some slight updates. The Aggies throw down with white helmets, maroon jerseys, and white pants in Week 1. The white helmet steals the show.
San Jose State Spartans
Sometimes less may be more. The San Jose State Spartans decided there wasn’t ever enough gold and went with the gold, gold, gold combination for Week 1.
Texas State Bobcats
The GJ Kinne era kicks off with the terrific combination of white helmets, white uniforms, and maroon pants.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Yeah, we’d like to see these black, white, white combinations for the Texas Tech Red Raiders more often.
Troy Trojans
A classic look, honoring legends of old, the Troy Trojans’ 2023 debut threads hit home with black jerseys. The Trojans T emblazoned their helmets with stunning pop.
UCLA Bruins
Well, well, well, UCLA Bruins equipment staff. Busting out the gold helmets and gold cleats for Week 1, the Bruins take on Coastal Carolina in style on Saturday night.
UNLV Rebels
You can’t beat a classic and the UNLV Rebels opened their season with a look at their classic, albeit slightly updated silver, red, silver combo with the retro REBELS logo. QB Doug Brumfield served as the model, showcasing this combination for UNLV in Week 1.
USF Bulls
Icy whites are the hit for the week, but few do it better than USF have done it over the years. That includes this week’s icy look with their massive U logo on their white helmets and clean white jerseys and pants.
Utah State Aggies
The icy white combo for the Utah State Aggies has some subtle details and clean striping that gives their take on the all-white combination a fresh look for their Week 1 debut.
UTEP Miners
The Miners host an 80’s night for their fans in Week 1, providing flashbacks for all us 30- and 40-something individuals that grew up with what only now amounts to nostalgia. The arcade theme was paired with their classic triple-orange look.
UTSA Roadrunners
Icy is the way to go in Week 1 and few do it better than the UTSA Roadrunners. White helmets that look like they’re saying ‘meep, meep,’ with white uniforms, white pants, and subtle accents with their trademark blue and orange highlights.
Washington State Cougars
We’re certainly going to miss the Pac-12 logo on the Nike uniforms for Washington State. Especially this combination.
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
The chrome is back for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers as they host USF. The Toppers head into Week 1 with this beautiful chrome, red, black combination.
