Are There College Football Games This Week? Breaking Down the Week 2 Schedule

With first impressions in the rearview mirror, the college football slate in Week 2 is highlighted by a Big Ten vs. SEC blockbuster matchup.

With talking season officially in the rearview mirror, Week 1 of the 2024 college football campaign gave us enough on-field action to discuss for months.

But as luck would have it, the wait for your team’s second game is usually way shorter than your wait for the first. Week 2 starts on Friday before a full slate on Saturday will make it feel like autumn is near.

Will teams continue to follow the trends set forth in their opening act, or will they change course and author a rewrite?

When Are the College Football Games in Week 2?

The highlight matchup of the weekend includes a head-to-head clash between two of the winningest programs in college football history. The Michigan Wolverines will put their 16-game win streak on the line when they host the Texas Longhorns at the Big House in front of a capacity crowd.

The only previous contest between these schools took place in the 2005 Rose Bowl, when the Longhorns erased a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit with a 37-yard field goal as time expired to defeat the Wolverines.

Another marquee Week 2 game is a Midwestern rivalry matchup circled every season as Iowa and Iowa State contend for the Cy-Hawk Trophy. Points will be at a premium in Ames on Saturday as these teams combined to allow a total of three points in their season openers. The Hawkeyes have taken seven of the last eight against the Cyclones, though every meeting in the series since 2017 has been separated by 10 points or less.
