Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders shared heartfelt stories about his senior players ahead of their final college football game tonight.

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders shared inspiring words with his senior players ahead of their final game of the season. In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), Coach Prime emphasized that this moment wasn’t just about him or his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, but about everyone who contributed to the Buffaloes’ success this season and since his arrival.

The Buffaloes concluded their campaign in fourth place in the Big 12 with a strong 9-3 overall record, including a 7-2 mark against conference opponents. Tonight, they face the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl. The Cougars finished the regular season in second place in the conference with a 10-2 record.

What Did Deion Sanders Say About His Senior Football Players?

In the previously mentioned video, Prime Time detailed how this experience has been about everyone on the roster, not just his children. However, he also indicated how he hoped that the skills and lessons he has taught will be transferrable to the professional and NFL ranks in the future.

“It’s not just about my kids and this last moment … it’s unfortunate that they are moving on but you pray that you poured into them enough that when they move on, they move up; they’re not just passing by,” Sanders explained in the press conference.

What Is the Future of the Colorado Football Program?

At the conclusion of this college football campaign, it is expected that several Buffaloes players will be drafted to the NFL in April. Colorado is set to lose their top two playmakers from the 2024 season: QB Shedeur Sanders and CB/WR Travis Hunter.

Both are expected to be taken high in next year’s NFL Draft. This sentiment is shared by CFN’s latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, in which both are selected in the top three selections.

Regarding Sanders, “While Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders seemed destined to become a Raider, Las Vegas’ Week 16 win put them out of reach in the draft order. One team’s loss is another’s gain, as the Giants take Sanders first overall. Coach Prime’s son is far from the perfect package, but he has the pocket awareness and anticipation that translate to the NFL.”

Meanwhile, CFN’s James Fragoza believes that Hunter will come with questions over his preferred position, but that shouldn’t detract suitors.

“The biggest question on draft analysts’ and fans’ minds is, ‘Will Travis Hunter play both ways in the NFL?’ In short, yes. But the two-way star is assuredly going to start on one side of the ball *cough* CB *cough* and moonlight on the other,” Fragoza wrote.

“While Hunter’s fluid mobility, ball skills, and elite athleticism translate best at corner, he has the skill set to see 10-20 snaps on the offense side of the ball. The Jaguars need help on both sides of the ball and will gladly facilitate reps for their top pick.”

Although there is no replacing two projected top-three NFL Draft picks easily, the Buffaloes aggressive recruiting tactics, led by Coach Prime, will surely ensure the program does not fade into the background of the college football scene.
