Clemson and Notre Dame Set Stage for New Power Rivalry Starting in 2027

Clemson and Notre Dame have always been dominant names in college football, and their rivalry is far from new. However, things are changing, as fans will now see more face-offs between the two programs in the coming years. With a new agreement between these two powerhouse programs, they are set to build a stronger and more familiar business relationship.

That friendly relationship, however, will remain confined to off-field operations. Meanwhile, on the field, their rivalry is set to take shape as college football’s next big showdown through a 12-year series agreement, which they are calling a “scheduling agreement”, running from 2027 to 2038.

Clemson and Notre Dame Lock In Future Battles With 2027

On Tuesday, Notre Dame and Clemson made waves in the football community by announcing a 12-game home-and-home series starting in 2027 and running through 2038. The two powerhouse programs will now meet every year, switching locations between Clemson’s Memorial Stadium and Notre Dame Stadium.

Prior to this agreement, the teams had a five-match schedule for that period. However, this new deal establishes a full annual rivalry. Clemson will host in odd years, while Notre Dame will lead in even years.

This long-term agreement comes at a time when the SEC and Big Ten are weighing major scheduling changes. It gives both teams a solid counterbalance as college football shifts into a new era.

Clemson and Notre Dame have faced each other six times since 2015. Clemson won four of those games, including two in the postseason. One unforgettable moment came in the 2018 College Football Playoff when Clemson crushed Notre Dame 30–3 in the semifinals.

But Notre Dame got their revenge in a 2020 regular-season thriller. They beat Clemson 47–40 in double overtime, handing Clemson its first regular-season loss in almost three years.

Then, later that season, Clemson returned the favor with a dominant 34–10 win that helped seal a playoff spot.

With more games lined up, this rivalry is set to make a lasting mark on college football. Fans can expect non-stop excitement and thrilling matchups for years to come.

Following the announcement, Notre Dame’s vice president called the rivalry one of the most exciting in recent memory.

He said, “This rivalry has already produced some of the most memorable moments in recent college football history, and our fans deserve these matchups to continue to make those indelible memories.”
