Buckeyes offensive coordinator Chip Kelly called head coach Ryan Day the perfect fit for leading Ohio State through challenges.

Ohio State Buckeyes offensive coordinator Chip Kelly recently spoke on the subject of his longtime friend and coaching companion, Ryan Day. As head coach at Ohio State, Day finds himself in an environment with significant pressure because it is one of the greatest programs in college football. For quite some time now, Kelly has thought Day is cut out for this type of job.

Chip Kelly Calls Ryan Day the Perfect Fit for Leading Ohio State Through Challenges

“I told him a long time ago that he was destined for this,” Kelly said, talking about the importance of being a head coach at such a high-profile program.

Kelly says that Day is still a steady leader. In a place like Ohio State, coaches tend to be emotional and impulsive at times during games. But Kelly points out that Day has been the same all season.

“Every day he comes in the same way,” Kelly noted. “You can count on Ryan. His dedication to his daily work is exceptional. Be it a big win or a tough loss, his purpose stays the same, and that constancy is evident in his style of leadership.”

This steadiness, Kelly says, has been fundamental to Day’s achievements. It provides not only stability to the program but also establishes a tone for both the players and the coaching staff. “He drives the entire program,” Kelly explained. “Coaches, players, and staff all understand what Ryan represents. That’s why they embrace his vision. His leadership has motivated everyone involved.”

Kelly also pointed out Day’s ability to keep his team together in difficult times. The Buckeyes had a grueling regular season, with moments when the journey became tougher and tougher. Yet, Day remained focused on one thing — keeping the group together and getting them ready for the College Football Playoff.

Since the last game of the regular season, Day’s message has been unmistakable: “We get to keep this group together.” Evidently, his emphasis on cohesion and grit had paid off since the team kept a clear goal. Kelly credited Day for the ability to keep the players inspired during difficult periods through good leadership.

“Everything he has underscored since then has been put into action,” Kelly said. “And now, we are given the chance to play another game.”

“He’s suited for this,” Kelly concluded. “Ryan has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to manage the pressure and responsibilities of leading one of the elite football programs in the nation. I’m not at all surprised by his success.”

As Ohio State prepares for their next challenge, it is more than apparent that they are led by individuals like Chip Kelly who will continue to support the leaders and their capacity to come out on top in trying times.
