Houston North Shore Top247 safety Chace Calicut is one of the top overall players in the class of 2026. The 6-3, 190-pounder is a long, rangy, extremely gifted prospect, who 247Sports ranks as the No. 183 overall player in the nation.
Calicut, the four-star recruit from Texas, looks to bring his talents to the Texas Longhorns. However, they may have some competition as these three schools aren’t backing down from trying to land one of the nation’s best safeties.

Michigan, Ole Miss, and Washington Push to Land Top Chace Calicut
Michigan is one of the teams that has not backed down from Texas and Texas Tech. Calicut agreed to an official visit with Michigan in June, and getting him on the campus could be a massive first step in the University of Michigan’s efforts to beat out the likes of his in-state schools, Texas and Texas Tech.
When speaking with On3’s Chad Simmons in January, Calicut announced the Wolverines are truly one of the programs which significantly peaked his interest. “I really like Michigan’s mentality and the type of program they run. Michigan puts guys into the NFL too,” Calicut said.
Obviously, Calicut’s ultimate goal is to make it to the NFL, and playing for a team like Michigan could be a great first step toward achieving that dream. However, Ole Miss is another team giving every contender to land Calicut a run for their money.
The Rebels have always had an excellent eye for talent and are one of the premier schools in college football. Many players drafted to the NFL also come from Ole Miss, and Ole Miss should certainly not be counted out when it comes to landing this top defensive back.
While Ole Miss hasn’t locked in Calicut for a visit yet, expect that to change sooner rather than later as they are making a hard push to land Calicut for their defense in 2026 and beyond.
One more team pushing hard for Calicut is the University of Washington. Washington has booked Calicut for an official visit in June and is hoping to entice him with a fun day on campus, Junior Day.
The Huskies are looking to improve their defense significantly as they eye quite a few recruits. One of their most significant wants comes in Calicut. Jedd Fisch and his coaching staff have made a considerable push to acquire a player from Lone Star State, which has been more of a rarity for them.

Ultimately, while Calicut is favored to go to either Texas or Texas Tech, nothing is set in stone. While some teams may have an uphill battle to climb as it is not an in-state school for Calicut, anything is indeed possible.
