Where Could Cam Ward Be Drafted?

Will Helms of the College Football Network sees Cameron Ward as one of the top talents in this year’s draft class, ranking him No. 6 overall and the top quarterback prospect. In contrast, Helms placed former Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders at No. 37 overall, slotting him as the third-best signal-caller in the rankings.

Ward has consistently drawn comparisons to Sanders, with both quarterbacks vying for the title of the best in college football. As the 2025 NFL Draft nears, the competition between the two has intensified, with Ward firmly in the conversation as a potential first-overall pick.

Reports suggest that the Tennessee Titans, who hold the No. 1 overall pick, have shown a stronger interest in Ward over Sanders. With the franchise looking to secure its next starting quarterback, Ward could very well be the one leading their offense in his NFL debut. The Hurricanes star might soon be donning Titans blue on draft night.

Mel Kiper Jr. Has Ward Being Drafted No. 6 Overall

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Ward No. 6 overall, recognizing his standout performance in the 2024 season. The Miami quarterback posted a 67.2% completion rate, racked up 4,313 passing yards, and threw 39 touchdown passes against just seven interceptions, while also adding four rushing scores.

Though ball security was once a concern during his time at Washington State, Ward has since refined his game, making him one of the most intriguing prospects in this year’s draft class.

“When things break down around him, Ward can extend plays with his legs, either throwing on the move or picking up first downs as a runner. I like his toughness, swagger and confidence,” Kiper Jr. wrote.

Additionally, Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski ranked Ward No. 9 overall, giving him an impressive 8.3 grade and projecting him as a first-round pick in the NFL Draft.

“Ward is an accurate full-field passer. He layers passes with precise touch in the middle of the field over underneath defenders. With his quick release and accuracy, Ward is effective in the quick passing game when it’s called. He has a flexible arm to throw from multiple angles/slots and fit passes around incoming defenders in the backfield,” Sobleski wrote.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler placed the West Columbia native at No. 15 overall but still ranked him as the top quarterback prospect. His elite arm talent, decision-making, and ability to extend plays have kept him ahead of the competition.

“There is a looseness to [Ward’s] game that is both worrisome and exciting, but it allows him to buy time and create explosive plays. After playing in a Wing-T offense in high school, Ward has made noticeable improvements each season in college, which creates optimism for his NFL future,” Brugler stated.

    • Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders are also in the mix for a quarterback, though their chances of landing Ward seem slim. Still, they haven’t ruled out the possibility of adding him to their roster. Ward’s dynamic skill set could be a game-changer for the Raiders, but securing him would likely require a trade-up in the draft.
