Cam Skattebo Injury Update: Arizona State to Play Without Do-It-All Running Back vs. UCF

Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo was injured against Oklahoma State and now is likely to sit out the UCF contest, putting his status for Week 12 in jeopardy.

The Arizona State Sun Devils have exceeded expectations in 2024, thanks in large part to a dominant offense. That offensive effort has been largely attributed to do-it-all running back Cam Skattebo.

In Week 11, however, the Sun Devils are set to play without Skattebo against UCF.

Is Cam Skattebo Playing vs. UCF?

Skattebo was ruled out of Arizona State’s game against UCF ahead of kickoff, citing a severe shoulder injury as the reason for his absence. The Big 12 leader in all-purpose yards will miss Arizona State’s game against UCF, being replaced by backup running back Kyson Brown against the Knights.

Despite missing the game, it’s likely that Skattebo will retain his Big 12 leading 1,405 offensive yards while out, but his absence will certainly be felt against UCF.

The Sun Devils offense runs through Skattebo as he’s rushed for 1,001 yards and 11 touchdowns with another 404 yards and two scores through the air in 2024.

The former Sacramento State transfer does everything for the offense, even throwing the ball 15 times this season for 130 yards and a touchdown.

    What Happened to Cam Skattebo?

Though he was going to originally try and test his shoulder against UCF, being listed as a game-time decision, ultimately, it was head coach Kenny Dillingham who may have urged him to take the game to rest and get healthy.

“I’m going to do whatever I can to try to tell him not to play because we got to get him 100% and got to get him healthy,” Dillingham said via Arizona Sports on X. “He’s a guy who’s going to want to play, he’s going to want to push himself to get on the field. I definitely want to be that guy that tells him we got to get you healthy for the last three, the last two, whatever that is.”

The injury itself came against Oklahoma State in Week 10 when Skattebo collided with a defender near the goal line late in the contest. He didn’t return against Oklahoma State and will now miss the game against UCF with all eyes looking ahead to Kansas State in Week 12.

Brown takes his place, having rushed for 143 yards on 29 carries with two scores on the ground this year. He’s proven he can also be a reliable receiver out of the backfield with five catches for 96 yards and a score through the air as well this year.
