Bill Belichick is one of the most talked-about figures in the college football world right now, but not for the reasons he used to be. Known for his impressive six-time Pro Bowl coaching career and his Hall of Fame induction, Belichick was once seen as a legendary coach. However, recent events have changed the narrative, and now people are discussing him for all the wrong reasons.
The latest controversy involves his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordan Hudson, which stirred up plenty of talk in the football community after Belichick’s CBS interview abruptly ended. But despite the negative attention, former NFL MVP quarterback Cam Newton views his former coach as a legend. This was recently revealed in a throwback clip from the “I Am Athlete” podcast, where Newton shared his thoughts on Belichick.

What Cam Newton Really Thought About Bill Belichick—Old Clip Resurfaces
Belichick and Newton shared the field during the 2020 NFL season with the New England Patriots. Newton, the former MVP quarterback, joined the team after Tom Brady’s departure.
When he first arrived, he called his time with the Patriots a “breath of fresh air.” Belichick, too, welcomed the change, and it didn’t take long for them to build a strong bond. The 73-year-old often praised Newton, saying, “Nobody works harder than Cam.”
Newton also showed love back. Even though the public opinion on his former coach has shifted recently, Newton’s respect for him hasn’t changed.
Recently, a throwback video surfaced where he passionately spoke about the legendary coach during his appearance on the “I Am Athlete” podcast in 2021. He described the Hall of Fame coach as “dope as s—” and a “cool dude,” challenging the common belief that Belichick is strict and unapproachable.

“I think Bill Belichick is the most misunderstood person in all of sports,” Newton said. “He dope as s—. He dope as s—. Like, he is a cool dude. He understands the game. He’s a historian of the game. Just for you to sit and chat with him. It’s like, ‘Damn.’ He’s going back and he’s got film teaching the game.”
More people might still view Bill Belichick in the same light as Cam Newton if he hadn’t been involved in recent controversy.

Sadly, that image has changed for many fans, not because of football, but because of the off-field drama involving his girlfriend. Her unprofessional behavior, which many believe is now impacting Belichick’s legendary reputation.
