Star Utah State Edge Rusher Byron Vaughns Enters Transfer Portal

Byron Vaughns has entered the transfer portal from Utah State in a move that should garner a bevy of attention from Power Five schools.

Utah State EDGE Byron Vaughns has officially entered the transfer portal. The former Aggies defensive end should garner quite a bit of interest in the portal, but which teams could continue to elevate his already talented game?

Byron Vaughns Enters Transfer Portal

The transfer portal got a huge injection of talent when Vaughns entered the fray. The Utah State product may not be a nationally-known name, but the right transfer portal destination surely can help with that.

Vaughns terrorized quarterbacks for the past two seasons at Utah State. The former Texas product made his name known in the Mountain West with his pass-rushing force.

At 6’4″ and 225 pounds, Vaughns has plenty of size to match up against even the biggest tackles. But he also possesses a rare game speed that allows him to speed past the more nimble pass protectors.

His defensive versatility will be coveted in the transfer portal, as Vaughns can line up anywhere on the field and still see near-elite success.

The name of the game for Vaughns is pass-rushing, though. Get his hand in the dirt, and have him pin his ears back to wreak havoc on the quarterback.

In two seasons at Utah State, Vaughns racked up 100 total tackles and 6.5 sacks. Those latter numbers, however, aren’t indicative of his pass-rushing skill. He was far more productive than his 6.5 sacks may initially suggest, as he recorded double-digit QB hits and hurries in the past two seasons.

A Fort Worth, Texas native, Vaughns is set to garner plenty of interest in the portal. Where he commits to will likely be where he can maximize his skill set on the field and put his name on the 2024 NFL Draft map.

Immediately, a school like Florida State comes to mind, as they’ve been active in the portal this season and are not afraid to take on one-year additions to their defensive line group, in particular. Given the recent successes of Jermaine Johnson and Jared Verse, it could be said that no team has a better track record of producing one-year defensive ends that vault their draft stock.

Where he lands will be a huge taking point for the 2023 season, and, ultimately, the 2024 draft. However his transfer portal journey unfolds, the nation will certainly know Vaughns’s name next fall.
