The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, under defensive-minded head coach Todd Bowles, thrive on an aggressive, blitz-heavy defense. As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell has been frequently linked to Tampa Bay. His elite athleticism and pass-rushing ability make him a natural fit for the Bucs’ defense.
However, Campbell recently underwent labrum surgery following the NFL Combine, which has raised concerns about his availability for rookie minicamp and training camp. If he misses key development time, it could affect his transition to the NFL.

Buccaneers Eye Jihaad Campbell to Bolster Blitz-Heavy Scheme
Despite recovering from a torn labrum after the NFL Combine, Campbell remains a popular prospect for the Buccaneers. His skill set aligns well with Bowles’ aggressive, blitz-heavy defense, making him a compelling option at No. 19 in the 2025 NFL Draft.
ESPN’s Field Yates recently identified Campbell as an ideal fit for Tampa Bay.
“Tampa Bay retained franchise icon Lavonte David for another year, and he’d be the ideal mentor for Campbell to learn from. Campbell — my No. 18 prospect — would also fill an important hole alongside David, giving the Bucs a legitimate three-down linebacker who checks every box required at the position.
“And few coaches love to dial up a blitz more than Todd Bowles, who would surely maximize Campbell’s underrated pass-rush skills (both as a blitzer and off the edge),” Yates said.
Campbell’s production at Alabama further strengthens his case as a first-round selection. He finished the 2024 season with 112 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 12 run stops, five sacks, and an interception, showcasing his all-around ability.
However, ESPN’s Matt Miller noted that Campbell was seen with a sling on his left arm before Alabama’s pro day. Miller reported that Campbell underwent labrum repair surgery, though he remains one of the top linebacker prospects in the draft.
Miller ranked Campbell No. 14 in his draft predictions and believes Tampa Bay could be a strong fit for him at No. 19.
Another factor to consider is Buccaneers linebacker SirVocea Dennis, who underwent shoulder surgery after aggravating a previous injury in 2024. If Campbell is drafted, he could form a strong pairing with Dennis, though his injury history might make some teams hesitant.
Despite the concerns, Campbell’s draft stock continues to rise. If Tampa Bay is serious about securing him, they may need to trade up to ensure they land their next defensive star.
