Jalen Milroe’s ‘Internal Clock Is Too Slow’

That comment was part of a tweet shared by First Round Mock, the account for Former New York Jets Scout Daniel Kelly.

Kelly said he had no choice but to give Milroe a second-round grade and that the quarterback does not play with enough urgency.

Milroe ranks lower than Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders.

There is much debate about whether Sanders will go that high in the first round as a pick, with conflicting reports about him from multiple sources as either a first overall pick or someone who will fall six or lower in the NFL Draft.

Cam Ward seems to be the most potent quarterback in the draft, and the Tennessee Titans are likely to select him with the first overall pick.

    Where does that leave Milroe?

Jordan Reid, an ESPN Draft Analyst, says there is still plenty of interest in Milroe. “As far as some landing spots for Milroe, the Saints are one that’s been repeatedly talked about with him, and then also the Steelers,” Reid said on SportsCenter.

Kelly does acknowledge several traits in Milroe that would benefit teams like the Saints and the Steelers.

“Great character. Great leadership. Great runner. Nice deep ball.”

Milroe did win the starting job in Alabama in 2023 and helped the Crimson Tide win a SEC championship.

Milroe has the speed and legs but struggles as a passer. When taken by a team, he should be used in situations where the run is utilized, and he should continue to develop his passing game.

The Steelers’ situation is complicated by Russell Wilson’s current playing for the New York Giants and Aaron Rodgers’ rumors that have yet to be solidified. Therefore, the Steelers may be interested in someone like Milroe.

The Steelers also have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson as options.
