Boise State Boasts the Best Group of Five Homefield Advantage in EA Sports College Football 25, But Will Albertsons Stadium Host a CFP Game in December?

The Broncos lead Group of Five teams in the EA Sports College Football 25 Homefield Advantage Rankings, but will that translate to the CFP?

The Boise State Broncos got some respect on Tuesday morning with Albertson’s Stadium coming in at No. 24 on EA Sports College Football 25‘s Homefield Advantage ranking.

One of college football’s many iconic landmarks with its signature blue field, “The Blue” has the distinguished honor of being the sole Group of Five field in the top 25.

With a record of 135-16 (.894), Boise State has the third-best home record in the nation since 2000. The Broncos have earned their place among the hardest places to play in the country, but will that translate into a College Football Playoffs appearance featuring “Smurf Turf” in 2024?

Boise State Has Best G5 Chance of CFP Appearance

The College Football Playoffs expand from four to 12 teams starting in 2024, adopting a 5-7 format featuring the five highest-ranked conference champions and seven at-large bids.

With no limit to how many teams from any conference can receive at-large bids, Group of Five programs have a slim chance of receiving one, but at least one G5 conference champion will earn one of the five auto-bids.

Coming off a surprise Mountain West Championship in 2023, Boise State heads into the 2024 season with the best-projected chance of any G5 team to make the CFP at 16.4%, based on ESPN’s college football power index rankings. The Broncos are also tied for the 30th-easiest 2024 slate based on the CFN strength of schedule metric.

The quarterback battle in Boise between returning redshirt sophomore Maddux Madsen and USC transfer Malachi Nelson continues into the summer with a starter yet to be named. In limited time for the Broncos last season, Madsen tossed for 1,191 yards and nine TDs, while rushing for another 120 yards and two scores. A 5-star recruit out of high school, Nelson didn’t play much as a true freshman last year before transferring.

Whoever wins the battle will inherit a talented team under a new coach. Expectations are high despite Spenser Danielson embarking on his first full season as head coach after taking over as interim coach to end last season.
