It’s a new era that’s taking shape in the college football arena, where the longtime powerhouse SEC is slowly passing on the baton to the Big Ten. It’s the first time that Big Ten programs lifted back-to-back national championship trophies since 1940-42, when the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Ohio State Buckeyes claimed multiple titles in consecutive years.
And of course, this past season, it was Ryan Day’s Buckeyes that took home the national championship with their massive 34-23 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish following the Michigan Wolverines’ victory the year before.

Analyst Predicts a New Dawn for Big Ten Over SEC
According to Gerald V. Dixon during his latest appearance on the “Ultimate College Football Show,” Tony Petitti’s conference has risen to dominance and will continue it in 2025 as well.
Will the Big Ten be better than the SEC in 2025? I think so! 🗣️

The SEC has seemingly forgone its past dominance, with only Texas offering a serious fight to opposing teams but struggled to find winning ways. Dixon claims that the Big Ten has a lot more armory and stronger programs as opposed to the SEC, especially ever since Oregon, California, UCLA, and USC joined the conference in the aftermath of the Pac-12’s implosion.
“I think we’ve seen the end of the SEC running college football,” Dixon said. “The way college football has been played in the last 12 years, the SEC had the right formula.”
Dixon continued, “They had the most talent, stacked three-deep in every position. And the Big Ten—all they’ve ever done is play with less and have a better opportunity. So, evolving to the way college football is right now, the Big Ten has always done it at a higher level.
“For now, this is their new norm. They don’t have to wait and have three-deep and have No. 1 recruiting classes back to back to back, and NFL players are littered across the board in order to win the national championship.”

Even Paul Finebaum, who has been a longtime admirer of the SEC, changed his views and gave an upvote to the Big Ten after Ohio State’s national championship victory.
No doubt, Day is on the run to defend the title in 2025 with a loaded roster.
