Silverfield commenced his coaching career at Hampden-Sydney College in 2000, where he worked as an assistant coach until 2003.
He subsequently gained further experience by working at Jacksonville University and the Minnesota Vikings before joining the University of Memphis as an assistant coach under Mike Norvell in 2016. His dedication and expertise earned him the elevation to head coach in 2019.
