2024 Big 12 K/P Rankings: Tyler Loop, Mason Fletcher Out-Kick the Rest

Four Pac-12 schools joined the Big 12 after Texas and Oklahoma left for the SEC, leaving the 2024 Big 12 K/P Rankings with new leaders.

With the departure of two teams but the influx of four different programs, the Big 12 has ballooned to 16 teams for the 2024 season. All of those changes leave the 2024 Big 12 K/P Rankings chock-full of new faces ready to assert themselves.

With a few new special teams standouts joining the party, let’s look at who out-kicks the field in the 2024 Big 12 K/P Rankings.

2024 Big 12 Kicker Rankings

5) Will Ferrin, BYU Cougars

Will Ferrin took over placekicking and kickoff duties for the Cougars last season, hitting 11-14 FGs and 32-33 PATs. He earned a CFN 2023 Second-Team All-Big 12 as a kickoff specialist.

4) Michael Hayes, West Virginia Mountaineers

A Georgia State transfer, Michael Hayes handled kickoffs and field goals for the Mountaineers his first season after jumping up from the Group of Five level. Hayes did well, making 17-21 FGs, while kicking off 73 times with 20 touchbacks.

3) Gino Garcia, Texas Tech Red Raiders

A transfer from Houston Christian (formerly Houston Baptist), Gino Garcia waited on the sideline in 2022 before taking over kicking duties for the Red Raiders last year. He was perfect on PATs (40-40) and 16-22 on FGs, earning a CFN 2023 Third-Team All-Big 12 selection as a placekicker.

2) Carter Brown, Cincinnati Bearcats

After spending his first season at Arizona State in 2022, making 11-14 FGs, Carter Brown transferred to Cincinnati before last season and took over kicking for the Bearcats. He went a perfect 30-30 on PATs and 15-19 on FGs, including 5-6 on FGA over 40 yards and a long of 54 yards against the Oklahoma Sooners.

1) Tyler Loop, Arizona Wildcats

A CFN 2023 First-Team All-Pac-12 selection as a kickoff specialist, and a Second-Teamer as a place kicker, Tyler Loop tops the 2024 Big 12 K Rankings for the Wildcats first year in the conference.

Loop made 19-24 FGs with a long of 52 yards while nailing all 53 PATs. The Arizona standout is perfect on PATs for his career (103 of 103), 49-57 on FGs, with 154 career kickoffs. 118 of those kickoffs have resulted in a touchback.

2024 Big 12 Punter Rankings

5) Mark Vassett, Colorado Buffaloes

A Louisville transfer, Mark Vassett joined the Buffaloes after two years with the Cardinals. Vassett led the Pac-12 in kicks inside the 20 (22), punting 65 times for an average of 44.3 yards per punt, earning him a CFN 2023 Third-Team All-Pac-12 selection.

4) Oliver Straw, West Virginia Mountaineers

The Mountaineers’ main punter the last two seasons, Oliver Straw earned a CFN 2023 Honorable Mention All-Big 12 with 42 punts, 19 landing inside the 20, for an average of 43 yards a kick. For his career, Straw has 91 punts, 37 inside the 20, at 42.3 yards per kick.

3) Tyler Perkins, Iowa State Cyclones

A 2022 Second-Team Freshman All-American, Tyler Perkins has been the Cyclones’ primary punter since arriving from high school. He earned a CFN 2023 Third-Team All-Big 12 nod after booting 25 of his 61 kicks inside the 20, averaging 44.3 yards per kick. For his career, Perkins is averaging 43.4 yards per punt on 111 attempts, with 44 landing inside the 20.

2) Jack Bouwmeester, Utah Utes

After sitting on the bench his first two seasons at Michigan State from 2019-2020, Jack Bouwmeester has played every game for the Utes since 2022.

He was a 2023 Ray Guy Award Semifinalist and a CFN 2023 First-Team All-Pac-12 selection after 55 punts for a 45.5 yards per punt average, with 20 punts landing inside the 20. After just one punt over 50 yards in 2022, he had 19 in 2023.

1) Mason Fletcher, Cincinnati Bearcats

A 6’7″ native of Melbourne, Australia, Mason Fletcher tops the 2024 Big 12 P Rankings as the Bearcats primary punter the last three seasons. Fletcher has 158 punts to his name, averaging 44.3 yards per attempt, with 69 landing inside the 20 and 25 going over 50 yards.

He was a 2022 Ray Guy Award Finalist and the 2022 AAC Special Teams Player of the Year, averaging 46.2 yards on 64 punts, 29 landing inside the 20 and 17 going over 50 yards.
