Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green has a chance to achieve college football stardom in the SEC this year. But where did he get his start?
Let’s take a closer look at Green’s history, from his time in as a high school standout, to his formative collegiate years at Boise State.
Taylen Green Distinguished Himself As Multi-Year Starter in High School
Green played high school football at Lewisville High School in Lewisville, Texas.
Like many quarterbacks at the CFB level, Green got his start in perhaps the most popular football state. He became a full-time starter as a junior and racked up 2,217 yards and 25 touchdowns through the air that year.
The following season, as a senior, Green added 2,431 yards and 22 touchdowns to his career passing totals. He also ran for a career-high 653 rushing yards and procured seven scores on the ground.
Green’s experience and production bade well for his college prospects, and his talent at 6’6″, 230 pounds was also undeniable. He ended up earning a three-star recruit billing in the 2021 class for his high school success, and that success laid the foundation for his rise.
How Did Green End Up at Arkansas?
Originally, Green signed with the Boise State Broncos out of high school. And in his freshman season, he served as the backup to long-time starter Hank Bachmeier.
Green only played in two games as a true freshman, thus preserving his redshirt. But the next season, he’d eventually take over as the starter for Bachmeier after four games. And as a redshirt freshman, Green started 10 contests, going 8-2 over that stretch.

In his first season as a starter at Boise State, Green completed 166 of 271 attempts (61.3%) for 2,042 yards, 14 touchdowns, and five interceptions while adding 586 yards and 10 scores on the ground.
Not only did Green produce at a high clip in his first starting campaign, but he also led Boise State to a Mountain West Championship title and was named the MWC Freshman of the Year.
Green was a phenom of the MWC entering the 2023 season, and unfortunately, his results were slightly less fruitful in his second year. He completed just 57.1% of his passes for 1,752 yards, 11 TDs, and nine INTs while running for 436 yards and nine scores.
By the 2024 offseason, Green had clearly established his talent, so he sought to capitalize on that talent by seeking an opportunity elsewhere via the transfer portal.
Ultimately, the Arkansas Razorbacks had a need after K.J. Jefferson’s departure, and Green filled the void.
Green’s first game in an Arkansas uniform was a success. Playing against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Week 1, Green threw for 229 yards, two TDs, and no INTs, and he also racked up 88 yards and two additional scores as a ball carrier.
If Green can string together wins in the hotly-contested SEC, he not only can add to his college football legacy but also strengthen his status as a potential 2025 NFL Draft prospect.
