There are a decent number of details about Avalos’ contract when he was first hired by the Boise State program back in early 2021. The two sides agreed to a five-year contract that is worth $7.75 million in total.
KTVB 7 detailed his entire contract which states that Avalos’s base salary was $1.4 million in 2021. His salary increases by $75,000 each season after 2021, which would put him at $1.55 million for the 2023 season.
His contract includes bonuses, the exact amount of which is unknown, but it won’t exceed $200,000 each season. Another added feature of the contract is that Avalos has $100,000 in deferred compensation annually. This will vest on March 31, 2024, and Avalos can only receive it if he is still working at the school.
If Avalos were to leave the school before the contract ends, he would have to pay a buyout payment of up to $3 million over a four-year span from 2023 until 2026. Since the April 2023 deadline has already passed, the buyout amount would be $2 million as of right now. Additionally, he can’t interview with the NFL or other colleges without the approval of their athletic director.
