The SMU Mustangs are looking to put together back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time since the early ’80s in 2024. The Mustangs will be led by four players who have received CFN preseason All-American honors in 2024.
Which standouts from the Mustangs can we expect to have a massive year in 2024? Let’s take a look at the playmakers earning national attention for the Dallas-based program!
Which SMU Players Earned CFN All-American Honors?
RJ Maryland will lead the Mustang offense in 2024, having been selected as the CFN Preseason ACC Tight End of the Year.
Maryland is fresh off a seven-touchdown campaign in 2023 in which he logged 34 catches for 518 yards, earning an honorable All-American mention from CFN at the conclusion of a memorable season. Expectations will be ramped up in 2024 as the SMU tight end earned CFN Preseason Second Team All-American Honors.
SMU Linebacker Kobe Wilson also earned CFN Preseason Second Team All-American Honors as a special teamer. The Senior led the Mustangs in tackles in 2023 and is expected to be one of the most significant impact players on special teams in 2024.
Maryland and Wilson are joined by CFN Preseason All-American Honorable Mentions Elijah Roberts, an explosive edge rusher, and Branson Hickman, the Mustangs’ starting center. With multiple players receiving preseason honors, the program is in a good place for their debut campaign in the ACC, following their move from the American Athletic Conference in recent realignment.
