With the advent of the college football season upon us, College Football Network has released its 2024 Preseason All-American list, with seven Oregon Ducks players being recognized. Which athletes were highlighted for their abilities as the 2024 season embarks?
Which Oregon Ducks Players Earned CFN All-American Honors?
The Ducks look to storm into their first season in the Big Ten with seven All-American honorees following a terrific 2023 campaign that ended with a Fiesta Bowl victory over the Liberty Flames. Oregon lands five offensive players and two defenders, headlined by transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Gabriel comes to the Ducks with a load of preseason accolades nationally. He was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year, Quarterback of the Year, and a first-team All-American. His top-10 numbers nationally at Oklahoma were impressive enough to get him the nod as he moved on to Eugene via the transfer portal with 30 touchdowns and 3,660 yards passing.
The native Hawaiian also garnered plenty of Big Ten recognition with preseason honors as Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Quarterback of the Year, and first-team All-Big Ten.
Evan Stewart joined Gabriel on the list as a preseason third-team All-American selection nationally at wide receiver and a first-team All-Big Ten honoree as he begins his first year in Oregon.
Returning receiver Tez Johnson was selected as a third-team All-American following 1,182 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns last season as a secondary target behind Troy Franklin, who left for the NFL. He was also named to the preseason first-team All-Big Ten roster, giving Gabriel plenty of weapons to utilize offensively.
Offensive linemen Josh Conerly Jr. and Ajani Cornelius round out the selections on the offensive side of the ball. Conerly was a third-team All-American nationally and landed a first-team All-Big Ten title.
Cornelius, meanwhile, was placed on the All-American Honorable Mention group nationally and also made first-team All-Big Ten, providing the Ducks with one of the better offensive lines in a conference that goes deep with trench monsters.
Defensively, the Ducks had Jabbar Muhammad and Jeffrey Bassa make the national list. Muhammad was named third-team All-American as he moves from rival Washington to Eugene, and Bassa was an honorable mention.
Muhammad and Bassa also landed on the All-Big Ten Defensive First Team. The two are representative of how the Ducks have built their defensive unit, namely with a mix of holdovers and new players via the transfer portal.
Here’s what CFN Executive Director Cam Mellor had to say about Oregon’s All-American selections.
Dillon Gabriel, QB (Offensive Player of the Year, Quarterback of the Year)
Shaping up to be one of the most prolific quarterbacks of all time, Gabriel has the chance to break the unthinkable record Case Keenum put up during his time at Houston.
With Gabriel’s landing in Eugene with the Ducks, he leads one of the most talented teams in the land and returns as the most proven commodity in the quarterback ranks this year.
Gabriel is the most accurate deep ball thrower we’ve seen in a decade, yet it’s his mobility from within the pocket that sets him apart. No throw is out of range and no window is too small for Gabriel.
He’s set up for the most success at Oregon and brings the most talent at the quarterback position of the top signal-callers returning to college football this season.
