Lambeau Field, the historic venue of the Green Bay Packers, will host the 2025 NFL Draft. As one of the NFL’s most iconic venues, its rich legacy adds a powerful backdrop to the league’s future stars. Let’s take a deeper look at the famous stadium’s history and its future as the site of the NFL Draft.

From Frozen Tundra to Draft Night Lights—Lambeau Field’s Iconic History Powers 2025 NFL Draft
Lambeau Field has been around since 1957. The hallowed Green Bay Packers stadium has just about seen it all, except for an NFL Draft. That will change on Thursday, as the fabled Frozen Tundra hosts the 2025 NFL Draft.
Former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms summed up the aura around Lambeau Field in 2005. The Packers reside in the smallest market in the league, making the stadium even more special. Green Bay has sold out each home game since 1960.
“I’ve been to every stadium in the NFL, and there is no doubt that the Lambeau Field experience is like no other,” former NFL QB-turned commentator Phil Simms said in 2005. “It’s like stepping back in time. There’s this beautiful stadium in the middle of a tiny little town.
“Step out of the hotel and, just like that, you are surrounded by history. Vince Lombardi, Ray Nitschke, Bart Starr … it’s just incredible if you’re a football fan to start looking at the names associated with this franchise,” Simms continued.
Simms compared the structure to some of the most famous in sports.
“Lambeau is a true sports landmark, right up there with baseball’s Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field and Fenway Park,” Simms said. “If you’re a sports fan, Lambeau Field is a place you’ve got to see.”
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan also loves the setting. The part he most enjoys about visits to Green Bay is driving up to the stadium, which sits smack dab in the middle of town.
“You’re just like you’re in the backroads. You’re not in a big city, and it’s just all these normal houses,” Shanahan said last year on “49ers Game Plan.”
“Then out of nowhere, there’s this huge stadium, and it’s packed. The history there is unbelievable. It’s so neat because you don’t see many NFL teams in a city like that, so it’s pretty special.”
2025 NFL Draft 2025 Viewing Guide: Dates, Location, and Draft Order
The most famous game played at Lambeau Field was the 1967 NFL Championship game between the Packers and the Dallas Cowboys, otherwise known as “The Ice Bowl.” The temperature nosedived as low as minus-13 degrees as Green Bay won its third straight league crown.
The 2025 NFL Draft will be the latest in a long line of notable events to be held at Lambeau Field.
