Travis Hunter and Cam Ward both had standout final seasons in college, putting themselves in the conversation as top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. While many believe Ward’s position gives him the edge to go No. 1 overall, others see Hunter’s all-around talent as unmatched.
The decision comes down to picking a quarterback with high upside or a generational athlete who can do it all. Let’s see what Todd McShay thinks as draft day gets closer.

Todd McShay Chooses Cam Ward for Titans, Stresses Position Over Talent
Recently, on The Rich Eisen Show, McShay shared that he believes Cam Ward is the kind of quarterback worth betting on with a high pick. “I think you take Cam Ward. You have an opportunity,” McShay said, highlighting Ward’s strong traits and natural instincts.
He pointed out that new Titans head coach Brian Callahan has worked with elite quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, and Joe Burrow, giving him the right background to mold a young talent. “You’ve got this clay, if you will, of a quarterback who’s got great instincts in the pocket,” McShay noted.
McShay also emphasized Ward’s sharp execution when in rhythm, saying, “He’s an absolute assassin in the pocket.”
He doubled down on the value of landing a top-tier quarterback, stating, “You got to have the quarterback or else what? Nothing else matters.” For McShay, Ward has the right tools, and the Titans have the right coach to bring them out. “This would be my swing at it,” he said.
Hunter sits at the top of McShay’s draft board, but when Eisen asked if that meant he should go No. 1 overall, McShay playfully deflected. “You’re always trying to stir things up, Rich,” he said with a laugh.
Despite Hunter being his highest-graded player, McShay made it clear that the only certainty in the draft is Ward going first overall. “There’s only one certainty in this entire draft, and that’s Cam Ward’s going one,” he said, hinting that while Hunter may be the best all-around talent, positional value still rules at the top.
