Oklahoma DL David Stone Isn’t Ready To Leave His OU Pride

Stone entered the transfer portal, raising a lot of eyebrows. The Del City native was a five-star recruit from IMG Academy. He’s a big deal, ranked No. 9 in the Class of 2024. In his freshman year, he played all 13 games, racking up six tackles, two for loss, and one sack. So nobody knew for sure he took the step.

However, by Sunday night, Stone changed his mind. He announced on X:

“Sooner Nation after taking the necessary time & examining my options… I have removed my name from the portal & will be furthering my education & career at OU!! Sooner Born…Sooner Bred… & when I die I’ll be Sooner dead!!”.

With the iconic quote, Stone made his loyalties clear.

Oklahoma’s coaches didn’t waste time. They reached out to Stone as early as Saturday morning. They wanted him in Norman, and they made it clear, and Stone listened. He thought it over and decided to stay.

Some fans on social media guessed he left for money, but Stone shut that down. He retweeted an old post saying NIL deals wouldn’t sway his school choice. This was about more than cash.

Stone’s growth on and off the field played a role in his decision. He spoke during spring camp about stepping up his game. His grades earned him a spot on the SEC Honor Roll, which was a big win for him.

On the field, he felt stronger than ever. He gained 15 to 20 pounds and moved better during winter workouts. They gave him the confidence to stay and keep building at OU.

The Sooners need Stone. Their defense ranked 19th in total defense last year, even with a 6-7 record. Stone is set to join Gracen Halton, Damonic Williams, and Jayden Jackson as key defensive tackles in 2025.

With new offensive weapons like quarterback John Mateer, OU hopes to turn things around, and Stone’s return could be a massive boost.

His decision wasn’t just about football, it was about loyalty. Stone grew up in Oklahoma. He started at Del City High before heading to IMG Academy. Coming back to OU means staying close to home, or maybe he came back after a deal went wrong.

Nothing can be said for sure other than that OU fans and staff will be relieved to have Stone back on their roster.
