Just hours after showcasing his talent on the national stage at the Jordan Brand Classic, four-star point guard Acaden Lewis is turning heads again with his college recruitment. The 6-foot-2 standout from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., announced Thursday night that he has officially reopened his commitment, just months after signing with Kentucky.
Now, all eyes are on Villanova, where Lewis is expected to visit today. With the Wildcats in rebuild mode and seeking their next backcourt leader, the timing couldn’t be better.

Why Did Acaden Lewis Decommit from Kentucky?
Lewis, the No. 5-ranked point guard and No. 30 overall player in the 2025 class, initially committed to Coach Mark Pope’s Kentucky program in November 2024, choosing the Wildcats over powerhouse programs like Duke, North Carolina, and UConn. However, the landscape changed dramatically this spring when Kentucky added transfer point guard Jaland Lowe, raising questions about Lewis’s immediate role and playing time.
With his freshman-year minutes now in question, Lewis decided to decommit on April 10, citing a need to make the best long-term choice for his development. Since then, Villanova has quickly emerged as a serious contender for his services.
Villanova: A Natural Fit for Acaden Lewis
Villanova’s new head coach, Kevin Willard, who took over following Kyle Neptune’s departure, is no stranger to Lewis. Willard previously recruited him while at Maryland and has deep ties to the DMV area, giving Villanova a strong connection to the talented guard.

More importantly, the Wildcats are losing all five starters from last season and have not been especially aggressive in the transfer portal. That means there’s a clear pathway to playing time and on-ball opportunities for a player of Lewis’s caliber, which is exactly what he’s looking for.
Additionally, Villanova fans will love that Lewis shares an alma mater with Wildcat legends Josh Hart and Saddiq Bey, who also attended Sidwell Friends School. The program hasn’t landed a high-profile recruit since Cam Whitmore in 2022, making Lewis a potential cornerstone for a new era of Villanova basketball.

Lewis’s visit follows his strong showing at the Jordan Brand Classic, where he demonstrated his elite ball-handling, vision, and scoring ability against the nation’s best high school players. His performance only reinforced what scouts have long believed: Lewis is ready to lead a college program.
While nothing is official, Villanova appears to be in a strong position. With Kevin Willard seeking his first major recruit and the program offering a clear opportunity for Lewis to take the reins, a commitment could come soon if the visit goes well.
