    Josh Pate Elaborates on Nico Iamaleava’s NIL situation

    Pate joined Pat McAfee’s show and said, “Whether it’s Nick Saban, Ryan Day, Steve Sarkisian, whoever. I’ve not heard any of them say, Man, I’m worried about NIL ruining this sport. They’ve said I’m worried about zero structure ruining this sport, like zero guard rails. No one knows what’s legal.”

    Unlike the NFL, where there are certified player agents and designated representatives, that does not exist in College Football.

    As Pate says, he or his cousin can represent someone in College Football, and they are the least equipped people to do it, even though they may share the same last name.

    Pate is blaming the people representing players like Iamaleava, not Iamaleave himself, for a lot of the NIL happenings in college football right now.

    Pate’s Fears for College Football

    In the same interview, Pate said, “The big fear for college football, to me, has always been the slow erosion of what really makes it great.”

    He also said, “And the big fear is it doesn’t mean as much to the players anymore one day as it does to me. And that’s kind of what makes me check out a little bit. You’ve got to have that stuff, man.”
