Ali Farokhmanesh’s Staff Gets Major Boost as Veteran Bradley Coach Joins Colorado State Backroom

The Colorado State men’s basketball team ended a strong 2024-25 season with a 27-8 record, tying for second in the Mountain West Conference at 13-5 under former head coach Niko Medved, who left for Minnesota in March 2025.

The Rams, a No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament, showed their strength by winning the Mountain West Tournament—their first in 22 years—then beating No. 5 seed Memphis in the first round, earning their first tournament win since 2013. Their run ended in the Round of 32 with a tough 63-61 loss to Maryland on a last-second shot, just missing their first Sweet 16 since 1969.

Since becoming head coach on March 26, 2025, Ali Farokhmanesh has focused on maintaining a strong team culture by retaining assistants Ken Deweese and Tim Shelton during the transfer portal era. He’s also building a close, family-like team and strong community ties in Fort Collins, where he’s lived for seven years. His staff now includes Jimmie Foster, who joined from Bradley to help the Rams grow.

What Foster Had To Say About Joining Colorado State Coaching Staff?

After a decade at Bradley, where he helped rebuild the team under head coach Brian Wardle, Foster is now joining Farokhmanesh’s staff at Colorado State as an assistant coach. During his time with the Braves, Foster helped lead the team to two NCAA Tournament trips and a Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title in 2022-23, their first in 27 years.

He stood out in recruiting, helping bring in six all-conference forwards and seven players named to the MVC All-Freshman Team. He also played a significant role in the growth of standout players like Elijah Childs and Rienk Mast.

Reflecting on his departure, Foster shared, “I had a good run here, and there’s a good group of guys coming back. I don’t want to leave those guys, but this is a good challenge.” His connection with Farokhmanesh dates back to their time at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Foster coached the then-junior college player.

“I helped him along the way, and it’s come full circle,” Foster said. “He asked me to join him, and I felt like it’s pretty amazing if he asked me to be one of his guys.” This move reunites the pair as Colorado State aims to build on its recent success, including a 27-8 season and an NCAA Tournament win in 2024-25.
