Chace Calicut Leans Toward Texas, but Three Schools Aren’t Backing Down

Reportedly, Texas is getting quite a grip on bagging Chace Calicut, but three schools are putting up quite a resistance, making it harder for Texas to break even with Calicut. These three schools are Michigan, Ole Miss, and Washington.

Their efforts make Texas’ dream of placing the 4-star safety on the roster a distant dream.

Texas Is Having a Hard Time Securing Chace Calicut

Chace Calicut, a standout safety from Houston’s North Shore, can’t hide his enthusiasm for Texas, “I love Texas,” Chase said during an interview with On3. “I’ve always watched them growing up.” He’s drawn to the coaching staff and the atmosphere in Austin. “They’re still at the top,” he said.

A lifelong Longhorns fan, he feels a pull toward the program he’s tracked since childhood. The arrival of Coach Orphey, a North Shore alum, only strengthens that bond. After a memorable visit in January, Calicut has locked in an official trip to Texas for June 13.

The Longhorns are riding high. They’ve already clinched the No. 1 recruiting class for 2025. Now, they’re chasing the top spot for 2026. Calicut ranked No. 203 nationally and No. 20 in Texas by On3, could be their first defensive gem. His recent “Junior Day” visit to the Forty Acres left a mark.

But the race isn’t over. Washington, Michigan, and Ole Miss are closing in. Calicut admits the gap is narrowing. “It’s tighter now,” he shared.

Each school brings a sweeter deal. Ole Miss has impressed him with their vision. He’ll check out their spring practice soon and might schedule an official visit. “They see big potential in me,” he noted.

Washington’s pitch hits home, too. Calicut has built a good reputation with Coach Mays, a former five-star recruit. “He sees a lot of himself in me,” Calicut said in the interview. He’ll visit Seattle on June 6.

Michigan, meanwhile, has surged into contention. Their coaches visited him in January, and he’s felt the pull ever since. “They really want me up there,” he said. His official visit is set for June 20.

With over 20 offers whittled down to a top 10, Calicut’s options are wide open. Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and others linger in the mix. Still, he’s firm on his timeline. He plans to decide before his senior season kicks off.

First, he’ll take those crucial official visits. Texas may lead, but Washington, Michigan, and Ole Miss aren’t backing down. The Longhorns will need to fight to keep their homegrown talent.
