‘Someone Out There Will be Yelling’ – Analyst Josh Pate Compares Texas’ Schedule to Oklahoma and Florida, Calling Them Two Different Worlds

Josh Pate criticized the SEC for giving Oklahoma a tougher schedule than Texas, calling it the easiest in the league and questioning its fairness.

The fans’ excitement after knowing that the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns joined the SEC was on another level for the league and college football overall.

SEC Schedule Controversy: Oklahoma at a Disadvantage Compared to Texas

OU and Texas will play against the same teams 2025 as in 2024.

But this time, the catch is that the game locations will be switched. The well-known CBS Sports college football expert Pate argued and raised the issue on his show, cosh Pate’s College Football Show, earlier this week.

“The schedule-makers in the SEC have shafted Oklahoma as it relates to Texas,” Pate said. “The strength of schedule dynamic and disparity between one and the other has been a joke.”

As per the schedule, Oklahoma and Texas will play different sets of teams in their first two seasons in the SEC, and the face-off will remain the same this year, 2025.

Oklahoma’s playing schedule will include skilled rivals like Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri, South Carolina, and Auburn.

On the other hand, if we look at Texas’ rivals, they will play against teams like Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas A&M, Florida, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Mississippi State, which are undoubtedly easier opponents compared to Oklahoma’s opponent teams overall.

Furthermore, both teams will also face challenging non-conference games, where Oklahoma will play against Michigan, the renowned 2023 national champion.

On the other hand, Texas will go against Ohio State, which is known to be the current champion.

“They (Texas) have the easiest conference schedule in this league,” Pate said. “It’s not easy; I said it’s the easiest in the SEC. Compare that to what Oklahoma’s gotta play or what Florida’s gotta play. It’s like different worlds. And somehow, these are all league schedules, all conference schedules… the league schedule in the SEC makes no sense whatsoever.”
