Deion Sanders Hilariously Shuts Down Julian Lewis’ Huddle Duties

Lewis is often touted as the successor of Shedeur Sanders and leader of the Buffs. Recently, Colorado Buffaloes’ practice took a lighthearted turn when Coach Prime humorously denied Lewis the honor of breaking the huddle. The young quarterback was about to conclude practice when Coach Prime recalled that Lewis had thrown an interception.

The moment, captured in a viral clip, showcased Sanders’ signature blend of accountability and humor. The team erupted in laughter as Lewis was playfully dismissed.

Julian Lewis Discusses His Flip to Colorado and Spring Football Goals

The Colorado Buffaloes made a significant recruiting move in the fall, flipping four-star quarterback Lewis from USC. Initially committed to the Trojans, Lewis changed course after being persuaded by head coach Deion Sanders.

During Colorado’s spring practices, Lewis spoke to the media for the first time as a Buffalo, explaining his decision to flip.

“Honestly, I think looking at it; it was the building process of the organization, the program just trying to build up from Coach Prime getting here to them building their record and doing all the stuff they’ve done. It was hard to pass up the opportunity to come here under Prime,” Lewis said.

With Sanders headed to the NFL, Colorado is searching for its next starting quarterback. Lewis, a four-star recruit ranked No. 56 nationally and No. 7 among quarterbacks by On3, enters the mix with high expectations.

However, he faces competition from Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter, who has significant college experience. Salter recorded 1,886 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2024.

Lewis, who reclassified to the class of 2025, shared his reasoning behind the decision.

“That was always the goal, to skip that last year of high school football,” he explained. “I felt like high school football didn’t have much more for me, even if it meant me coming in (to a college program) and competing for a job young. I felt it would be best for me to get in here as early as possible.”

Despite the competition, Lewis is embracing the learning experience.

“Of course, everybody thinks it is a quarterback battle and stuff like that, but we have such great quarterbacks in the room and great personalities,” he said. “I just love being around the guys daily and being happy to be here.”
