Van Buren played high school football for St. Frances Academy in Maryland. He quickly became a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 385 overall prospect in the Class of 2024.

Van Buren also ranked as the nation’s No. 24 quarterback and No. 12 overall recruit in Maryland. Van Buren wasn’t the original starter for Mississippi State but took over after Blake Shepen went down.

Van Buren arguably played his best game against an incredible Georgia Bulldogs defense. He erupted for 306 yards and threw for three touchdowns and one interception. When Van Buren decided to leave Mississippi State for LSU, he posted a heartfelt message:

“Mississippi State faithful, you all have embraced me, supported me, and nurtured me both academically and athletically in our short time together,” Van Buren says. “My family and I are forever thankful to coach (Jeff) Lebby, the staff, my teammates, the administrative team, and the professors for their contributions to my growth as an individual.”

“For the past year, we have worked arm in arm to generate some memorable moments in coach Lebby’s first year, and I am confident there is more greatness to come from the program. After a lot of consideration, prayer and consultation with my family, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left.”

LSU head coach Brian Kelly turned LSU into one of the best places to be for young quarterback prospects. Van Buren will look to grow more as a quarterback under Kelly and the rest of the LSU coaching staff and follow in the likes of Joe Burrow’s footsteps.
