Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney hit the ground running in his spring practice debut. The four-star receiver and son of former Buffalo Bills (2003) and Washington Redskins (2004-05) receiver Antonio Brown signed with the Hurricanes over schools including Florida State, Ohio State, Auburn and Alabama.
Toney announced his re-commitment to the program on Oct. 28, following his decommitment on Oct. 3. He cited Miami’s 36-14 trouncing of the Seminoles as a primary reason.

Toney’s Battle Into the Miami Hurricanes’ Lineup
Toney, who helped lead American Heritage High School to a 12-2 record and No. 6 ranking in Florida, racked up 58 receptions for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns in his 2024-25 campaign. He added 34 carries for 224 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, good for a 357th rank nationally and 51st within Florida, according to 247 Sports, who ranked him as the 49th best WR in the 2025 class.
Toney is one of Miami’s 21 signees in the 13th-ranked Class of 2025, lined up as the second-best incoming receiver behind West Broward High School’s Joshua Moore, a four-star recruit, according to 247 Sports.

Mario Cristobal’s team is looking to build off a spectacular 2024 season, which saw them win 10 games for the first time since 2017. With Cam Ward off to the NFL, Carson Beck is expected to be the new starter for the Hurricanes.
Toney will have to fight for playing time in a stacked Hurricanes wide receiver room. With Ward’s top target, Xavier Restrepo — who picked up 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns through the air — out of the picture, there will be plenty of opportunity for the freshman to find a place in the lineup.
