The LSU Tigers have been nothing short of dominant this season, proving why they belong among the elite teams in college basketball. Flau’Jae Johnson, the Tigers’ standout star, believes that the best way to describe her team’s relentless drive is through music. According to Johnson, “Unstoppable” by YFN Lucci perfectly embodies the grit LSU has displayed all season.
As the Tigers inch closer to the SEC Tournament, their focus remains on their championship aspirations, with key players like Mikaylah Williams stepping up in crucial moments.

Flau’Jae Johnson Claims Mikaylah Williams Is the Underrated Force Behind LSU’s Success
While Johnson and Aneesah Morrow often grab the headlines as LSU’s leading scorers, sophomore guard Mikaylah Williams has quietly been one of the most valuable players on the roster. Averaging 17.1 points and a team-best 3.1 assists per game, Williams has been an essential component of LSU’s success, yet she doesn’t always receive the recognition she deserves.
“I don’t think that [Williams] gets a lot of the praise that she deserves,” Johnson said.
“Me and Aneesah are such big figures and we lead the team in scoring, but she does so much more for the team. She plays 1 through 4, and I don’t think people understand how important she is to our system and everything she does.” She added
Williams’ versatility allows her to play multiple positions on the court, providing LSU with flexibility and depth. Her ability to facilitate plays, defend multiple positions, and contribute offensively has made her an indispensable asset for head coach Kim Mulkey.
As the Tigers enter the final stretch of the regular season, Williams’ contributions will be pivotal in pursuing an SEC title and beyond.
With only two games remaining before the SEC Tournament, LSU is preparing for critical matchups that could shape their postseason seeding. First, they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 20 Alabama, a team that has been strong at home. Following that, the Tigers return to Baton Rouge for their regular-season finale against Ole Miss.
Currently ranked No. 7 in the AP Top 25, LSU has built a strong resume with a 27-2 record, marking its fourth consecutive 25+ win season. The only blemishes on its record came in tough battles against South Carolina and Texas, two teams ranked in the top three at the time of their meetings.
Against South Carolina, the Tigers remained competitive throughout but struggled with turnovers, committing 17 that led to 22 points for the Gamecocks. They also racked up 19 fouls, which hurt them down the stretch.
In the Texas game, LSU appeared to be in control with a 12-point lead midway through the third quarter, but their offense collapsed in the fourth, leading to a disappointing loss.
Despite these setbacks, LSU has demonstrated its ability to compete with the best. The Tigers have secured impressive wins against elite programs such as NC State, Tennessee, and Kentucky, reinforcing their status as serious contenders for a deep tournament run.
Flau’Jae Johnson: Leading the Way On and Off the Court
Johnson has been the heart and soul of LSU this season, leading the team with 19.3 points per game—placing her among the top 30 scorers in the nation. She has also been a force on the boards, averaging 5.8 rebounds per game while dishing out 2.5 assists.
However, she takes the most pride in the aspects of her game that don’t always show up on the stat sheet.

Beyond basketball, Johnson has been making waves in the music industry. She has collaborated with major artists, including Lil Wayne, who was featured in her song “Came Out a Beast.” Next season, she hopes to blend her two passions by writing the team’s walkout song—a unique way to bring her talents full circle.
A business major at LSU, Johnson has already used her education by securing multiple NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals. One of her most recent partnerships is with Invisalign, adding to an impressive portfolio of endorsements.
