Soaring Up Draft Boards: Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson Ignites First-Round Hype

TreVeyon Henderson is flying up draft boards. The explosive playmaker could go as high as the first round and could be the next great NFL RB out of Ohio State.

Fresh off a national championship victory, Ohio State Buckeyes RB TreVeyon Henderson is flying up draft boards. After a great career with the Buckeyes, the former five-star recruit is headed to the NFL, but how high will he go?

Could TreVeyon Henderson be a first-round pick?

“TreVeyon Henderson man. He’s going early. Like, he might go first round early,” said Todd McShay on The McShay Show.

Henderson is an elite playmaker. The juice and explosiveness he brings should translate well to the next level. Henderson is a monster in the open field. He has a knack for creating big plays with his elite timing and patience on top of the explosiveness.

Henderson possesses the necessary agility and bend to work around blocks. He does well at setting up angles and cut back lanes to evade opposing defenses.

Henderson is also a phenomenal pass catcher. He is a good athlete and shows great body control and strong hands at the catch point.

Not only can he run a diverse route tree, but he also flashed the ability to run routes from multiple different alignments. Henderson will be a big-time weapon as a runner and a pass catcher at the next level.

Something that separates Henderson from other playmaking backs in this class is his legit three-down ability. Henderson’s pass-catching and rushing ability is evident, but teams will value his blocking.

Henderson has a relentless motor and uses it well as a pass blocker. He shows intelligence by taking on the correct assignments and blocking the right guys to keep the pocket clean. He made several key blocks in big games down the stretch for Ohio State. His blocking technique can improve, but the effort pops off the tape.

Henderson will be a guy that coaches will have trouble taking off the field because he can impact the game in so many different ways.

Henderson is listed at 5’10″, 208 pounds, and his game revolves around his zone running ability and quick twitch movement. He hasn’t shown a lot as a power runner and sometimes struggled with his contact balance.

Scouts will certainly be intrigued with how he measures in at the combine because he may need to put on some more weight to help him as a runner between the tackles.

Henderson’s could be viewed as a perfect fit for teams at the next level. His vision and movement are eye-popping. He compares to guys like Jahmyr Gibbs in terms of twitch and suddenness. His acceleration is strong, and he can hit his top speed after cuts and jukes in a flash.

What he did at Ohio State might only be a glimpse of what he can do. Wherever he ends up, I expect him to get the ball thrown his way a ton.

Where Does Henderson Rank on Our Top 300 Big Board?

Henderson can be an elite yards-after-catch guy and punish teams that try to match him up with a linebacker or safety. His burst and hands are reminiscent of the elite pass-catching RBs in the NFL. The idea of adding that skill set to their offense will get many teams excited.

Henderson looks like he can be an absolute dynamic playmaker. In a league where teams are always looking for the next great playmaker, Henderson’s rise up the draft boards makes sense. He could go as early as the first round, and his potential as an NFL RB is limitless.
