Ryan Day led the Ohio State Buckeyes to its first national championship win since 2014 after cruising past four top-10 opponents in the College Football Playoff, including the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the finale to hoist the grandest trophy of them all.
Ryan Day and Ohio State’s Win Honored With a Renamed Street
Day called the Buckeyes’ 2024 campaign “the best run in college football history.” They celebrated their victory on Jan. 26 at their very beloved Ohio Stadium. To honor the historic win, the program honored the team and its staff by renaming a lane outside the arena as “Champions Way.”
The shiny new street sign was revealed on Jan. 29, with the team tweeting pictures of it alongside the caption: “Good Morning from Champions Way 🏆”

Columbus’ mayor Andrew Ginther was the one to unveil the street sign and also presented the Buckeyes with a key to the city on the Jan. 26 celebration, which saw more than 30,000 fans attending the ceremony.

The intersection of Champions Way and W Lane Ave has been renamed as part of tradition of honoring the program. Previously, the intersection of Lane Avenue and High Street was renamed “Champions Lane” 22 years ago, and 10 years ago, “The Undisputed Way” was introduced.
Ohio State president Ted Carter was all for the Buckeyes’ future as he told beat writer Dan Hope, “I want to tell you how much I’m looking forward to 2025. Because we are not done.”
Day echoed these sentiments as he told TNT’s Ernie Johnson on Jan. 27 that he wants to be like Woody Hayes, the coach who was the driving impetus behind the team’s 13 Big Ten Championships and three national titles, along with producing three Heisman winners and 51 All-Americans.
“That’s something I’ve now set for myself,” Day said. “To be the next head coach to win multiple championships at Ohio State. There’s still a lot more to be done.”

Day, who has a 70-10 record with the Buckeyes, is one of just three active coaches in the FBS (along with Dabo Swinney from Clemson and Kirby Smart from Georgia) to have won a national title. He’s the only coach to win a championship in the new 12-team format, finishing with a 14-2 record.
