The state of affairs within the Mississippi State Bulldogs football program is certainly under some scrutiny. After falling down early to UMass at home, the program may have hit a new rock bottom as a viral social media clip took the nation by storm.
Did A Recruit Really Decommitt From Mississippi State Mid-Game?
As it appears, Mississippi State’s season could have gone better. Under new head coach Jeff Lebby, there’s a lot of groundwork to be made as the program tries to turn itself around.
However, falling behind to UMass early, especially in Starkville, is not a way to get the program back on the right track.
And though the viral video did show a potential recruit typing out that he would be decommitting from the university, it appears that video wasn’t entirely accurate. Here’s the video, first and foremost.

Now, if you zoom in at the right time, and pause the video, it’s on the Twitter interface and you can see it clearly says the following:
“I’m thankful for all the support from Mississippi State but I will decommitting:”
Iverson McCoy Is Still Committed to Mississippi State
The tweet was actually never sent and there is no record or screenshot of it being sent. Digging a bit deeper, it’s actually not a real tweet and the video itself should be debunked.
Mississippi State’s recruiting class for the 2025 Class currently ranks 32nd and Iverson McCoy, the recruit in the video, is actually a part of the Class of 2026, which ranks 16th nationally.
McCoy cleared the air on Instagram with a live story.
“Bro, I’m not going to lie to y’all, I’m just trolling, I’m not going anywhere,” McCoy said on Instagram. “Real life, Hail State!”
McCoy is a three-start cornerback recruit from Tupelo High School. He currently ranks as a top-35 cornerback prospect for the Class of 2026 and the 13th-best player in the state of Mississippi.
At 6’1″ and 180 pounds, it’s reported that McCoy has other offers from Kentucky and Ole Miss, but committed to Mississippi State back on June 24.
McCoy seems committed, but may have to answer for the viral video for some time. Mississippi State seemingly righted the ship and rattled off 28 unanswered points after the video made its rounds.
