The total trends aren’t the only ones that conflict, either:
- The Orange are 4-1 against the spread in the previous five home matchups with the Hokies.
- The Hokies are 5-1 ATS in their last six contests.
Virginia Tech’s Winning Probability
One. More. Win.
The Hokies haven’t been to consecutive bowl games since 2018-2019, but one more win will restore the honor. However, they are playing for even more, as they are 3-1 in conference play, behind Clemson (5-0) — who they’ll get to face next week — Miami (4-0), SMU (4-0), and Pittsburgh (3-0).

- vs. Clemson: 33.1%
- at Duke: 52.8%
- vs. Virginia: 75.3%
Syracuse’s Winning Probability
The Orange are also one win away from going bowling, but they’ll have an extra shot at achieving the milestone. Even if they go 0-4 in their final four conference duels, a penultimate matchup with UConn should secure bowl eligibility.
- vs. Virginia Tech: 46.6%
- at Boston College: 48.8%
- at California: 42.6%
- vs. UConn: 83.3%
- vs. Miami-FL: 19.8%
Prediction for Virginia Tech vs. Syracuse
The Orange have won four of the last six matchups against their old Big East rivals, but the teams enter this contest on opposite ends of the momentum scale.
Virginia Tech is fresh off its third straight victory, while Syracuse suffered an embarrassing 41-13 blowout loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers — a game in which QB Kyle McCord threw five interceptions, three for pick-sixes.
Up to that game, McCord had provided above-average play under center, especially in the offense’s pass-heavy approach. Will he bounce back in Week 10? Yes, but only because there really isn’t anywhere else to go.

Don’t expect fireworks, though. Tech’s defense is tied for sixth in sacks per game (3.25) and 36th in passing yards allowed per contest (196.2). Syracuse’s rushing attack is also largely nonexistent (90.3 YPG, 3.0 YPA), putting even more pressure on McCord to deliver through the air.
Expect the Hokies to tee off on the passing game and the tandem of QB Kyron Drones and RB Bhayshul Tuten to hit the ground running against the Orange.
Prediction: Virginia Tech 34, Syracuse 21
