On Thursday, Hurricane Helene touched down in Florida as a Category 4 storm, bringing devastating winds, torrential rain, and widespread flooding across the region.
Our thoughts are with those affected, but for those wondering about canceled Week 5 college football games, how many are there, and will they be rescheduled?
Week 5 College Football Games Impacted by Hurricane Helene
Currently, the App State-Liberty clash on Saturday, Sept. 28, in Boone, North Carolina, is the only canceled game. According to the school, due to “severe impacts to App State, the town of Boone, and surrounding areas caused by Hurricane Helene,” the contest will not be played in Kidd Brewer Stadium and will not be made up.
However, that is far from the only Week 5 game impacted by the comprehensive damage.
The hurricane disrupted Stanford’s travel plans for their upcoming game against Clemson. Originally set to depart from San Jose to Greenville-Spartanburg Thursday evening, the team faced multiple delays before their flight was ultimately canceled due to the severe weather.
A Stanford spokesperson said the charter couldn’t land before the airport’s curfew. The team’s new flight is scheduled to depart from San Francisco on Friday morning and land roughly 24 hours before their Saturday night clash with the Tigers.
Florida State adjusted its travel plans to avoid Hurricane Helene, leaving Tallahassee on Thursday for their Saturday game at SMU in Dallas. The Seminoles moved up their plans to steer clear of the storm’s impact on Tallahassee. However, FSU’s band, the Marching Chiefs, scrapped their trip to Dallas due to the weather.
Colorado left Boulder on Wednesday to get to Orlando ahead of Hurricane Helene, moving up their usual Thursday travel plans by a day. The Buffaloes face UCF at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
Florida A&M has pushed Saturday’s HBCU home game against Alabama A&M to Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving.

Additionally, high school football games from Ohio to Indiana to Georgia have been canceled and/or postponed.
As the football world grapples with these changes, the true priority remains the safety and recovery of the communities affected by Hurricane Helene.
